Akshay Kumar is back with another movie, this time directed by Aanand L Rai Raksha Bandhan. The advances for this family drama opened Friday and the film has sold nearly 18,000 tickets nationwide, with an advance of about Rs. 35 lakhs for opening day.

Of the total of 18,000 tickets, approximately 9,000 have been sold at the three national chains – PVR, Inox and Cinepolis – with the remaining 50 percent coming from the non-national chains. With a title like Raksha Bandhanit is expected that on release day this film will be the first choice for the walk-in audience ie middle class and lower middle class family.

The advance indicates a start of Rs. $8 million, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Raksha Bandhan opens in the range of Rs. 9.50 to 11.50 crores. With two days to go, Raksha Bandhan is expected to clock an overall advance of Rs. $3 million nationwide, and then depending on walk-in crowds for a double-digit day.
