Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary-style TV series that revolves around a group of passionate teachers who eventually work together in the Philadelphia’s Public School System. Despite being underfunded and having the world against them, these dedicated teachers will stop at nothing to help their students learn and give them a better life. Abbott Elementary received critical acclaim and was nominated for more than 20 awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.
One of the best aspects of the show is the cast, which includes Quinta Brunson (also writer and creator of the show), Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walter and, of course, Sheryl Lee Ralph. While each actor has been praised for their performance on the show, special attention has been paid to Ralph, who plays the experienced elderly teacher Mrs. Barabara Howard. 6 William learning to read
In season 1, episode 4 of Abbott Elementary, we see the difficult but hilarious reality that Mrs. Howard faces. She sits down with William and tries to teach him to read, and despite her best efforts, William is only interested in perfecting his dance moves. She eventually gets him to read it and as he tries to get him to say the word “hill,” suggesting it rhymes with his own name, he ends up saying “hilliam,” to which Mrs. Howard shakes her head and says no. Part of what makes this scene so funny is its familiarity with teachers and parents alike as kids struggle to learn new things, especially considering that each kid learns in their own individual way.
5 crazier is better
When it comes to teaching kids, one of the biggest challenges is keeping the kids interested in learning. In episode 8 of Abbott Elementary Season 1, sees Mrs. Howard team up with Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) to teach Gregory (Tyler James Williams) a better approach to keeping kids interested in learning. While Melissa suggests using a ridiculous voice to give the kids more fun and help them think critically, Barbara stands up and shows Gregory how singing and dancing while teaching is more effective than the traditional attempt to get students out of the classroom. to learn by heart without actually learning anything. 4 Barbara and Melissa give Janine sound advice about a relationship
In the season two premiere of Abbott Elementary, we see our favorite characters return to the screen with new struggles to overcome. One of the most heartfelt moments is when Barbara and Melissa offer Janine (Quinta Brunson) advice on how to deal with her recent breakup at a party that went horribly wrong. They give her the wise advice to work through her breakup and not move on alone. 3 Crying for a student
One of the most heartfelt moments of the latest season appears in the premiere. When Mrs. Howard sees a wheelchair accessible desk for a disabled student, she starts to cry at the sight and shows her appreciation. Not only does this scene show Barbara’s compassion as a human being, but it also shows how she feels about her students and truly wants the very best for each of them. The fact that she breaks down in tears when one of her students can sit among the other students without feeling left out is part of what makes Ms. Howard a phenomenal teacher.
2 What Barbara did in the summer
In the first episode of the second season of Abbott Elementary, we get to see a whole new side of Barbara. When asked what she did in the summer, she tells about her all-inclusive cruise where she lost her shoes while drunk. Until now, Ms. Howard has always been seen as a fun but serious teacher who is dedicated to her job. In this recap, we get a taste of Barbara during her free time, so drunk that she loses her shoes, an activity many would consider “fun”. As she told this story, she said one of the most quoted lines of the second season: “Sea Barbara is… different from Land Barbara.” This makes us wonder what the rest of the season has in store for us by starting strong.
1 Madam. Howard decides to keep teaching
In the finale of the first season, Abbott Elementary wraps up a number of unresolved conflicts throughout the series. As for Ms. Howard, she makes the decision to continue teaching despite reaching retirement age. Not only does this show Ms. Howard’s dedication to her students, but it also proves her loyalty to her colleagues and her desire to teach the next generation.
