At the latest (and updated) TV ratings, NBC’s first Golden Globes broadcast in two years averaged 6.3 million viewers and a demo rating of 1.1, down 9 and 27% of the 2021 telecast to mark the event’s smallest audience since 1995 (the last time TBS hosted the show before handing it over to NBC) and a new low-end demo.
It should be noted that prior to this year, the Globes traditionally aired on a Sunday with an NFL entry. Total viewership, including Peacock streaming, will be reported later this week.
The 2021 Globes, with 6.9 million total viewers and a 1.5 demo rating, was down more than 60% from the last pre-pandemic ceremony. In January 2020, the pre-pandemic Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais, drew 18.4 million viewers. Imagine!
In front of the Globes….
SCS | FBI (6.4 mil/0.5) dropped week over week but still attracted the biggest audience of the night. International (5.3 mil/0.4) was stable while Most Wanted (5.9 mil / 0.5) reached and matched season highs.
ABC | The recruit (3.2mil/0.4) and Federals (2.7 mil / 0.3) both fell to Earth after last week’s superlative counts. Will Trent (3.1 mil / 0.4) has lost a few viewers since its debut a week ago, but remained stable in the demo.
FOX | the resident (2.5mil/0.3) slid to series lows was stable heading into next week’s final (?).

The Live + Same Day numbers reported in our review column make not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of playback via DVR and streaming platforms, as well as out-of-home viewing. Rather, these numbers (Nielsen Rapid Nationals, unless referred to as Finals) are intended to merely illustrate trends or superlatives.
