Popular author Twinkle Khanna is known for her unfiltered and outspoken nature. More than once, many celebrities including boyfriend Karan Johar and husband Akshay Kumar have spoken about her straightforward demeanor and unabashed writing. And this time, this popular writer became a critic with her husband’s latest movie Raksha Bandhanwhich is directed by Aanand L. Rai and stars Bhumi Pednekar.
Twinkle Khanna looks at Akshay Kumar starrer Raksha Bandhan; says: “It may make you burst, but I dare you to leave the theater with dry eyes”
Akshay Kumar has always maintained that Twinkle Khanna is one of his biggest critics. However, it seems that the emotional story of siblings in Raksha Bandhan left her emotionally. Twinkle shared a preview of the film’s trailer on her Instagram handle, daring moviegoers to return from the film without bringing tears to their eyes. Speaking about the direction of Aanand L. Rai, the actress-turned-writer said, “Raksha Bandhan made me laugh in the first half and cry through the second. A film about India that we all pretend doesn’t exist. A reality we wish didn’t exist.”
She added: “We’ve changed the terms from ‘dowry’ to ‘gifts’, but in homes in socio-economic strata there are wide variations in usage. The amazing Aanand Rai has skillfully built a world where siblings tease, support and ultimately triumph together. The challenge in changing mindsets is that these conversations are largely circulating among the already converted. It is perhaps only cinema that has the power to dig into the minds and hearts of people across the board. Raksha Bandhan may make you laugh and burst into tears, but I dare you to leave the theater with dry eyes 🙂 #rakshabandhan”
Speaking of the movie, Raksha Bandhan is scheduled for release on August 11, to mark the same occasion. The film features Sadia Khateeb, Deepika Khanna, Smrithi Srikanth, Sahejmeen Kaur as Akshay Kumar’s sisters while Bhumi Pednekar plays his love interest.
