“It’s so much fun to be a part of this world and people just love these characters so much. I mean I’d love to keep doing it and Luigi has a whole mansion where he can roam around and be scared. But I don’t know, I think I would do as many as they wanted me to.

Based on the hugely popular video game franchise and featuring beloved Nintendo characters, The Super Mario Bros. movie follows the iconic plumber as he travels to Toad Town and adventures through an underground labyrinth with his brother. With the help of Princess Peach, Mario gets ready to take on the almighty Bowser to stop his plans from conquering the world.

It’s clear the pair would love to do more like Mario and Luigi, and with the former Super Mario Bros. movie all set to give clues on a sequel, including both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene, we’d all be wise to sign The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 in our calendars.

But with the era of the Guardians of the Universe is about to wrap up with the third movie, how does Pratt feel about jumping into another franchise so soon?

“I wouldn’t call it fear, I think just a level of excitement. Especially knowing how broad the fan base is for the Super Mario Bros. and Mario World, you just know the potential there. The only fear you could have is that you just don’t want to be responsible for screwing up stuff like this. You know how passionate fans are, I know how passionate I am about this universe because I played so many of these games growing up.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes

Despite The Super Mario Bros. movie looking to make a lot of money at the box office, the critical response to the animated adventure wasn’t exactly favorable. The Super Mario Bros. movie currently sits at a “rotten” 54% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus reading: “While it’s nowhere near as thrilling as a turtle fighting your way to 128 lives, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a colorful – if sparsely plotted – animated adventure featuring about as many Nintendos as Nintendonts.

However, MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman found a lot to enjoy when he joined Mario and Luigi in the Mushroom Kingdom. He describes the video game adaptation as “a risqué CGI adventure that hilariously incorporates Nintendo’s most popular characters”, and praises the film for bringing “childhood favorites” to life and making them “run, jump, kick and go-kart”. through colorful, dazzling worlds.”
